Who are ULS and What do we do

Utility Law Solutions was established in 2007 by Philip Day who had previously worked in the water industry for over 30 years, primarily in a legal role. Philip’s son Alex Day joined the company in 2011 to provide additional technical focus, having worked in both the water industry and for housebuilders over the past 7 years. 

Philip and Alex can draw from their experience in the water industry, the house building sector and from working with existing Utility Law Solutions clients to help you manage a number of key business areas. We can help resolve the problems/issues that face organisations and businesses on a day to day basis. Utility Law Solutions has a unique insight into the way that the water industry and other utilities interact with the house building sector. One of the main activities of the business is the provision of support and advice in relation to water and sewerage law and its practical application in the construction industry. 

Philip is an acknowledged expert on how water industry law and process affects the operational and business activities of the water industry and organisations with which the water industry interacts such as developers, Ofwat, the Environment Agency and Defra. This combined with the technical knowledge possessed by both Philip and Alex gives ULS an ability to provide invaluable support to its clients businesses.

Since 2007 Utility Law Solutions has worked with a wide range of organisations from major housebuilders to individual homeowners, as well as providing specialist advice to law firms, including in relation to the Barratt Homes Limited v Dwr Cymru Cyfyngedig (Welsh Water) case. We have resolved disputes, overcome complex issues and saved or recovered money for our clients. Our work has not been confined to water and sewerage law, we have been able to apply and expand our knowledge to other utilities including gas and electricity and also tackle related planning issues.
